KOTO Association 1

KOTO Association 1

KOTO Association is a social enterprise, and a community initiative of The Xpress Train (TXT). TXT is a Venture Builder based at Mall of Medini, in the budding Iskandar Puteri City in Johor, Malaysia. TXT’s mission is to support individuals and businesses for building and growing formidable local businesses in Malaysia. This mission, captured in TXT’s slogan of supporting its clients to ‘Build, Launch & Grow’ their ideas or products inspired the founding of KOTO Association.

KOTO stands for Know One, Teach One, it follows the vision of contributing to the building of a strong community of successful entrepreneurs and startup developers through a platform where individuals can acquire and share knowledge, ideas, technology and skills.

KOTO Association is built on six of the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015. These six goals are aimed at the global achievement of Zero Poverty (SDG1), Zero Hunger (SDG2), Quality Education (SDG4), Gender Equality (SDG5), Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG8) and Reduced Inequalities (SDG10).

Over 700 million people (10 percent of total world population), still live in extreme poverty while extreme hunger and malnutrition remain barriers to sustainable development. Though women and girls represent half of the world’s population and therefore, half of its potential, gender inequality persists, frustrating social progress. Inequalities based on income, age, disability, sexual orientation, race, class, ethnicity, religion and opportunity continue to persist across the world, threatening long-term social and economic development. Sustained and inclusive economic growth can drive progress, create decent jobs for all and improve living standards. Decent work means work that is productive and that delivers a fair income, security in the workplace and social protection for families, better prospects for personal development and social integration. Education enables upward socioeconomic mobility and is a key to escaping poverty. It is also essential to achieving many other SDGs. Education will help to reduce inequalities while also empowering people everywhere to live more healthy and sustainable lives and contribute to more peaceful societies. The potential of education to foster and promote sustainable development represents the basis of KOTO Association. KOTO will leverage education as a tool to contribute to global sustainability through its three sub-associations focusing on venture building, making, and sports. In this way, the interest of a majority can be addressed.
